Telling the stories of youth, lust, desperation and jubilation, Ben Burns brings Springsteen-style Americana to the Midwest. Adding a distinctly regional sensibility steeped in Wisconsin folk roots, Burns isn't ashamed to pour his heart out on the floor.

I met Ben in his Chicago apartment to record the audio and video for this track, "Got Lost."

You can see more videos from the session on Ben's YouTube channel. To download some free high-quality tunes, check out Ben's Bandcamp page.

This 1-minute film is an exploration of the way in which light interacts with our world. The dreamy, streetlight-inspired piece was shot on black & white reversal film using a vintage Bolex camera. Some of the clarity and warmth of the original images got lost in digitization, but life goes on.

Music is original and added digitally along with the titles.

This song I recorded in the fall of 2007… influenced very strongly by Phil Ochs and other folk protest singers. Instruments featured on this track include guitar, banjo, harmonica, and percussion.

This is a song I composed on the 4th of July, 2007. Drum tracks are composed/modified using Garageband loops, everything else is fully original.

This is an adaptation of Santo & Johnny’s 1959 song, “Sleep Walk.” This version I recorded in 2010 features guitar, E-Bow, and tambourine.

When I was studying abroad, above all my goal was to live in the moment—not a difficult task when you're in one of the most beautiful regions in the world. This short travelogue documenting a day trip on Saturday was an attempt to capture that ideal. My classmates and I traveled to Pienza and Montepulciano, the Italian capitals of cheese and wine, respectively. The music is my own—it’s meant to reinforce a meandering, dream-like quality throughout the piece.
