After almost a year of nothing but freelance work, this beautiful Friday marks my last day flying solo for a while. And wouldn't you know it... there's not much work to do! The sky is blue, the trees are green, and my neighborhood is just begging for a portrait.

Rome is a gorgeous, historic city. But, with grandeur also comes tourists. And traffic. And an incredible amount of noise. Which is why I was quite pleased when I stumbled upon this public park, overlooking the rest of the rest of the city from a lofty distance. It was quiet, serene, and a great place to do some drawing.

There’s nothing quite like summer in Chicago. For months, I hadn’t taken much initiative to do any drawings, but when I found myself walking across this downtown bridge, I decided to stop for a while and reacquaint myself with pen and paper. This is another quick drawing from one of my journals. This was one of my favorite spots when I was studying in Cortona, Italy. I especially liked the way the light hit in the morning, so I decided to get up early one day and sketch this out. The felt-tipped marker gives a cool effect, but can definitely be unforgiving at times.

This is a view of Florence from Piazzale Michelangelo, a large hill which has a view of the city center over the Arno river. The church that rises over the rest of the city is Florence’s famed Duomo. This is just a quick sketch from one of my journals.
